IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man allegedly crashed his car into Best Buy and was arrested after police say they found him urinating with his genitals exposed in a parking lot on Hitt Road early Wednesday morning.

Raul E. Ruiz, 29, is being charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a accident, indecent exposure, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

A witness called police after observing Ruiz hit the building with an SUV that had a flat tire. Ruiz then drove away, the witness said. When officers found him in a nearby parking lot around 3:50 a.m., they saw him urinating before he stumbled toward his vehicle, according to court documents obtained by EastIdahoNews.com.

Police confronted Ruiz and asked him if he had been drinking. He admitted to drinking alcohol; however, he denied hitting any buildings with his car.

Police observed there was “significant damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle, the front passenger tire was shredded, and the back driver’s side tire was flat,” according to court documents.

When police began to administer a field sobriety test, they say Ruiz yelled and become uncooperative. Police then drove him to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. When a blood sample was administered, he was disruptive in the emergency room, according to court documents.

Ruiz was then transported to the Bonneville County Jail. While in the back of a police cruiser, police say he banged his head against the plexiglass partition in the car. He then had to be transported back to EIRMC to fix a cut on his eyebrow.

Police say they later found Ruiz had also crashed his car into the Holiday Inn Express on Channing Way. That incident was captured on surveillance camera, police say.

Ruiz is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 29.
