Pocatello Police Dept. schedules prescription drug take-back for Oct. 27

The following is a news release from the Pocatello Police Department.

POCATELLO — Officers with the Pocatello Police Department will be taking your unwanted and unused medications off your hands next Saturday.

Oct. 27 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pocatello Police Department Station at911 N. 7th Avenue, officers will be accepting all medications for disposal.

“Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet,” Lt. Eric Anderson said. “Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to theft and abuse.”

Citizens are discouraged from disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash. These methods pose potential safety and health hazards to our landfill and water supply.

At the last Take Back Day in April, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and its partners collected nearly 475 tons of medications from across the country
