Winter weather conditions arriving in eastern Idaho this week
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — A cold weather system is bringing freezing temperatures and even some snow to eastern Idaho this week.
The colder temperatures begin tonight and tomorrow. The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday in the following communities: Shoshone, Richfield, Carey, Pocatello, Blackfoot, American Falls, Shelley, Fort Hall, Burley, Rupert, Heyburn, and Oakley.
Temperatures will drop to between 27 to 33 degrees in the advisory area. Similar temperatures will also be felt in other areas in eastern Idaho, but those areas have already had a hard frost or freeze and so advisories are no longer being issued.
A freeze warning means below freezing temperatures are imminent or high likely that may kill sensitive crops or vegetation.
On Tuesday, a weather system will drop into eastern Idaho from the northwest. Snow and rain showers are expected from Tuesday through Thursday beginning in the Central Mountains on Tuesday. Wednesday is looking to be the wettest day overall.
Most of the snow is will be contained to the upper elevations, above 6,000 feet, however, rain and snow is possible in the valleys on Thursday morning.
Temperatures lows are expected to be in the high 20s, and mid-30s at night with highs into the mid-40s and low 50s during the day.
