BLACKFOOT – The Blackfoot Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred early Tuesday morning at a local laundromat.

The fire department received a call that the Maple Street Laundry and Dry Cleaning on North Maple Street was on fire at 12:30 a.m. and firefighters responded to put it out. They fought the fire for about four hours and cleared the scene at around 4:15 a.m.

Since it was so late at night, nobody was in the building or injured by the fire.

Blackfoot Fire Department Capt. Dave Krumenacker estimates the damages at $250,000. “Pretty much the entire inside of the building burned,” he said.

By the time the firefighters arrived, the fire had already done most of its damage.

Along with the building loss, other people had personal items inside, Krumenacker said, including clothing.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
