BLACKFOOT — A local family and the firefighting community is mourning the death of the Blackfoot Fire Marshall this week.

The Blackfoot Fire Department announced Tuesday that Benjamin J. Hirschi, 39, passed away Monday. The cause of death has not been released.

Blackfoot Fire Chief Kevin Gray described Hirschi as a great guy who will be missed by all in the department.

“A huge THANK YOU to each and every person who has reached out to me and the entire Hirschi family,” said Heidi Hirschi-Moser, the sister of Ben Hirschi on Facebook. “Your love has been felt. Everyone keeps asking if there is anything they can do. I simply ask this: please, please love others unconditionally. Ben truly exemplified this to those he was around. If you are a believer in prayer, please pray for Ben’s wife, Kathryn and his 4 beautiful, sweet children. Thank U ALL for the out pouring of support and love you have shown. Ben will never be forgotten and he lives on!”

Services for Hirschi will be held Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. in Pocatello at the Alameda Stake Center at 930 East Alameda Road. Family will receive friends Nov. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Avenue in Pocatello and one hour prior to services on Monday. View his obituary here.

Idaho Falls Fire Department spokeswoman Kerry Hammon says firefighters from her department will be covering the stations in Blackfoot on Nov. 19, so all the firefighters in Blackfoot can attend the funeral.

“A lot of heavy hearts and sadness,” said Hammon when asked about how the firefighting community is responding to the death of Hirschi.

An account to help the family is located at ISU Credit Union under the name of Kathryn Hirschi.
