JACKSON, Wyoming — Teton County, Wyoming, investigators have discovered the remains of a large marijuana grow in the basement of a deceased man’s house.

Jeffery Archer, 69, was found dead in his Game Creek Subdivision home of apparent natural causes. Five of his dogs were also found deceased. One dog was found alive and treated for starvation and dehydration.

On Friday, the sheriff’s office announced a new turn in the case.

“When investigators re-examined the scene earlier this week they discovered a basement that was initially inaccessible from the rest of the house,” according to a news release. “The entrance to the basement was concealed behind a 6-foot-tall pile of trash and debris. After making entry, the investigators discovered a large indoor marijuana grow. There were over a hundred plants found, some cut down, some still in pots and grow beds. It appears the entire operation had been abandoned for well over a year. All of the plants were in an advanced state of decay.”

The sheriff’s office said due to the “extreme health hazard presented by the condition of the home,” investigators sealed the home and returned with a hazmat team. All the marijuana was collected and destroyed.

“The grow was obviously larger than personal use; however, there is no reason to suspect anyone else was involved in the grow,” the news release states.

Investigators have not been able to locate any next of kin for Archer.
