Lifeguard training course offered by Pocatello Community Recreation Center

The following is a news release from the city of Pocatello.

POCATELLO – The City of Pocatello’s Community Recreation Center (CRC) will be offering a Lifeguard Training Course beginning Thursday, January 10.

Interested participants must complete a pre-course session that includes water skill testing prior to being accepted into the class. The pre-course session will offer a swim test, stroke improvement, and conditioning for those who may need pointers to pass the pre-requisite swim test. The pre-course session is free and will be held at the Community Recreation Center Wednesdays from 7 p.m.to 8 p.m. through January 9.

Registration for the required pre-course session is now open online at register.pocatello.us. Interested participants can also register by calling 208-232-3901, or by visiting the CRC at 144 Wilson Avenue. Participants may register for one or all the sessions depending on necessity.

The Lifeguard Training Course will begin Thursday, January 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for those who successfully complete the pre-course session and pay the fee. The remainder of the classes will be held:

  • Friday, January 11 (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Saturday, January 12 (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Thursday, January 17 (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Friday, January 18 (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Saturday, January 19 (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

Participants are required to attend all the classes and classes will not be made up.

The cost is $150 and includes the American Red Cross lifeguard training, first aid, and CPR/AED instruction. For those who successfully complete the course, the certification will be valid for two years. Participants must be at least 15-years-old to be eligible to participate.
