POCATELLO — A man who allegedly had a violent outburst at Portneuf Medical Center was tased by police and arrested around 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

Pocatello police say shortly after being released as a patient from the hospital, Scott Haddon, 38, of Pocatello allegedly grabbed a music stand near the main entrance of the hospital and began to swing it at hospital staff.

Police responded after Haddon exited the hospital doors. He allegedly began to swing the music stand at officers then picked up rocks and threatened to throw them at officers. Police then used a Tazer to incapacitate Haddon and placed him into custody. He was checked out and cleared by emergency room staff at PMC.

No one else was injured in the incident.

“It was was our security that called police and asked them to respond,” PMC spokesman Todd Blackington told EastIdahoNews.com. “The incident did not happen in a patient room. Security was monitoring the individual, but keeping a safe distance until police arrived. We are grateful for their quick response to the situation.”

Police say it’s unclear what happened at the hospital before the incident or why Haddon became belligerent.

Haddon has been charged with two felony counts of assault on a police officer. He was transported to the Bannock County Jail where he was given a $10,020 bond. Jail records show he later posted bond and was released.
