The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

At around 3:30 p.m. on Monday Nov. 19, an experienced Idaho State Police motorcycle trooper initiated a traffic stop on another motorcycle, driven by Christopher Williams, for traffic violations at the intersection of Waltman Lane and Meridian Road.

As the ISP trooper approached the motorcycle on foot, Williams accelerated and sped away down Waltman, which does not have a secondary exit. The ISP trooper got back on his motorcycle and located the suspect at the end of the street.

As the ISP trooper again attempted to make contact with Williams, a physical altercation occurred between them surrounding a struggle over the trooper’s firearm. After approximately two minutes of fighting for the weapon, preliminary evidence indicates the ISP trooper fired several shots which struck the suspect in the torso. The ISP trooper began life-saving measures immediately, which paramedics took over when they arrived on scene. The suspect was later pronounced deceased.

The ISP trooper involved was wearing an on-body video camera and video is being reviewed as part of the investigation. The Ada County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased male and family has been notified. The Critical Incident Task Force investigation remains ongoing at this time.
