School bus slides into semi-truck in Jefferson County

RIGBY — A school bus slid into a parked semi-truck in rural Jefferson County Thursday morning.

The crash occurred before 8 a.m. near North County Line Road in Osgood.

Authorities say a semi-truck was stopped on the side of the road, while the driver attempted to chain up his wheels to go up a hill. The driver of the truck was located in the opposing lane after slipping on the road during a first attempt up the hill.

A Jefferson Joint School District 251 bus was headed down the hill on the icy road and began to slide.

“This was my first accident in 66 years,” driver Mr. Barry told EastIdahoNews.com. “As instructed we were traveling very slowly and due to slippery conditions the bus slid into the truck and sustained minimal damage.”

There were 17 students on board the bus, however, none of them were injured in the crash. All students were evacuated from the scene by parents.

Roads throughout eastern Idaho are slick this morning. Use caution when driving.
