Shelley man killed after crashing into cattle truck
Published at | Updated atCAREY — A Shelley man was killed after crashing into an empty cattle truck early Tuesday morning.
James L. Brannen, 51, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on U.S. Highway 20-26-93 near Carey around 12:40 a.m. when he crossed the center line and struck the truck head-on, according to Idaho State Police. Investigators say the cattle truck came to rest on the right shoulder and the Tahoe spun before coming to a stop in the westbound lanes.
Brannen died on the scene. The driver of the truck, 64-year-old William Featherston of Sun River, Montana, was wearing a seatbelt and did not need to be taken to the hospital.
The westbound lanes were blocked for approximately four hours and the eastbound lanes were still blocked at 7:30 a.m. while the cattle truck was being recovered.
