REXBURG — A Madison County Jury found a Rexburg man not guilty of sex crimes following a three-day trial and just two hours of deliberation

Prosecutors accused 53-year-old Jose Romulo Tarrillo of one count of child sex abuse for soliciting a child under the age of sixteen years to participate in a sexual act and one count of lewd conduct with a child, according to court documents.

The state alleged Tarrillo abused a 14-year-old girl over five months between 2017 and 2018. They presented several expert witnesses in sex abuse and forensic interviews. The victim, her mother and a counselor also testified on the state’s behalf.

According to defense attorney Sean Bartholick, Tarrillo and his wife took to the stand to deny the allegations.

Jurors deliberated for two hours and found Tarrillo not guilty of the alleged crimes.

With the acquittal, Tarrillo’s bond was exonerated.
