IDAHO FALLS — A local family survived a house fire in Idaho Falls Monday night.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department reports the blaze erupted on the 1000 block of Halsey Street around 9:45 p.m. Initial reports indicate a man, woman, three children and numerous animals, including two dogs, a snake, a turtle and 19 rats, were inside the home when the fire started in the ceiling.

Firefighters rushed to the house and spotted smoke coming from the roof of the single-story home. Once inside, firefighters could see flames coming from the hallway, into a bedroom and into the attic and roof.

Crews had the flames knocked down around 9:58 p.m.

The Fire Department reports there were no injuries to those inside the home. Firefighters also battled the blaze without any injuries.

Both the Red Cross and the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy of Idaho were dispatched to provide assistance to the family who was displaced from their home, according to a news release from the fire department.

Officials estimate the damage at about $90,000.

The fire remains under investigation by IFFD’s Fire Prevention and Investigation Division.
