BURLEY — A man was severely injured while working at a gravel pit, The Burley Herald reported on May 27, 1922.
E.R. Pollock, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, was working around cars at a gravel pit near Marion in Cassia County when the accident happened.
Pollock was trying to get into a car, and his leg came in contact with the wheels, which threw him down. He was rushed to Burley for emergency treatment.
Dr. Cooper, of Burley, and Dr. Reins, of Oakley, amputated the mangled limb close to the thigh. After the surgery, Pollock was reported to be resting well, and the article said he would “survive the shock.”
