Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has come under fire from cops for what they believe is his tepid support of the NYPD, says that overall crime in the city fell 4.6 percent last year, giving credit to police for this decline.

While murders fell only from 335 to 332 and car thefts actually rose, all other crimes experienced drops.

Then, there was the other figure that raised eyebrows. Compared to a year earlier, the number of summonses written by cops during the week that ended Sunday decreased by 90 percent. In Brooklyn North, for instance, the number was down to 216 from 4,076 over the same time period in 2013.

Overall arrests in the city were also off by 56 percent compared to the last week of 2013.

Commissioner William Bratton had no comment about the slowdown, which was acknowledged by some other members of the NYPD brass.
