Derrick Chad Burnside

Derrick Chad Burnside was brought into this world on August 30th, 1984. He was born in Rexburg, Idaho to Moe and Lorane Burnside. He was brought home to a house full of siblings that loved him Kenny, Nathan, Shiann, and Cody. He was the baby and took full advantage of this title.

He was raised in Ririe, Idaho, where he attended Elementary, Middle and High school. He loved to be a Bulldog, and was so excited to have his oldest Daughter, Adysann, attending Ririe this past year. From a young age, Derrick was involved in football, basketball, and baseball. He played in minor and major leagues in baseball where he was a leader and participated in the area all-stars. He played tight end, earning a letter his sophomore, junior, senior years. Following high school, he earned his bachelor degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Project Management at Colorado Tech University. He worked construction for his dad and brother before he graduated. His degree gave him many great working opportunities for the Idaho National Laboratory. He was able to start his own business and named it Sawtooth. He worked for the Federal government for the past 20 years taking jobs in Zion, Illinois, and Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Derrick met the love of his life, Britni, at a young age of 15, and chased her throughout high school. It was here that he knew that this was the young lady that he wanted to start a family with. Together they had three beautiful children; Adysann, 16; Lyncoln, 11; Mykiah, 10. His family was his whole world. Derrick was an amazing father and very active in all of their lives. He loved supporting them in their sporting events. He coached many basketball, baseball, and softball teams for all of his kids. He loved getting to know all of the kids he coached and watch them play. He had a way with being stern and keeping them focused, but also making sure they were having fun.

He loved hunting, fly fishing, and razor riding. He lived for his yearly Selway trip with his brothers, uncles, and cousins. He looked forward to spending any time he could at his uncle Cleve’s cabin hunting and playing poker. He had a passion for music, singing and dancing. He was a Boise State and Eagles fan, until he worked in Chicago and also became a Greenbay Packers, and Cubs fan. Many knew Derrick for his huge heart, kindness and the charisma he had. He knew how to get a good deal on anything or talk his way out of trouble. He had a talent for making everyone feel important and loved. He was known for throwing the best 4th of July party with some fantastic fireworks, although some didn’t make it into the sky.

Derrick grew up a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he loved the Church and always had a strong testimony. Which was heavily influenced by his graduation from seminary.

His family would like to thank the army of friends and family that have rallied around them. They will forever be grateful for all the love and kindness shown. Derrick made a huge impact on many lives on this earth. He will leave a hole in many people’s hearts especially his wife and children.

Derrick is survived by his wife Britni Burnside of Rigby, children Adysann, Lyncoln, Mykiah, of Rigby, parents, Moe and Lorane Burnside of Ririe, sister, Shiann Burnside of Boise, Idaho, brothers, Kenny Burnside of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Nathan Burnside of Ririe, Idaho, Cody Burnside of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and many nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Burt and Alice Byington, Bertha Byington and Doyle and Flossie Burnside and many uncles.

Funeral services will be held Monday April 28th, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 401 W 1st Street Rigby. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, April 27, 2025, also at the church from 5-6:30 pm and Monday 9:30 am prior to services. Burial will follow the funeral at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com
