Glenda Susan Martin

March 27th, 1952 - May 25th, 2023

Glenda Susan Martin, 71, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away May 25, 2023, peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

Glenda was born to parents LeRoy and Maxine Hope in Rigby, Idaho, on March 27, 1952. Glenda graduated from Bonneville High School in 1970. She married Jay Martin that same year, shortly before Jay left for the Vietnam War. Many titles describe Glenda to many people, including wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, aunt, friend, and coach.

Glenda is survived by her husband, Jay Martin, and her boys Shane (Patricia), Shawn (Debbie), Shad (Robin), and Sheldon (Nicole). Glenda is also survived by her five siblings, fifteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Glenda’s family and friends used some of the following words to describe her: kind, loving, sincere, accepting, fun, sweet, and resilient. Glenda lived an adventurous and fulfilling life. Her husband Jay’s Marine Corps and Federal Aviation Association assignments took their family to many places including Georgia, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Washington, and California. Jay and Glenda happily retired back home to Rigby, Idaho.

Every place Glenda went, she left a wake of service, love, and support. She showed her love by helping Jay memorize Oklahoma airspace patterns during his air traffic control school, running local parent-teacher association projects, attending her boys’ many sporting events and graduations, watching her sons leave and return from war and missions, coordinating family beach trips, teaching her granddaughters to crochet, and even reluctantly agreeing to be the project manager of her sons’ goal of building a skateboard half-pipe in the back yard with scrap wood.

Glenda loved her Savior Jesus Christ and served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, Primary President, Idaho Falls Temple Missionary, and her most memorable as an early morning seminary teacher in Washington.

Glenda loved her family and was very proud of them. She wasn’t shy about sharing their success with anyone who would listen. Her family will miss her dearly but have hope for the eternities ahead when we can be with her again.

A viewing will be held Friday night, May 26, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home (101 W Main St. Rigby, ID 83442) and on Saturday, May 27th at 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m., followed by funeral services to honor and celebrate Glenda’s life at 1:00 p.m., at the LDS chapel at 5 N 3900 East, Rigby, Idaho. Interment will be held at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
