Born in St. Anthony, ID, to Leland and Edith (Farley) Miller, Jim spent much of his early childhood in Parker, ID, and with his many Miller cousins in St. Anthony. The family moved to Kellogg, ID, and Jim graduated Kellogg H.S. in 1961. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, who soon sent him overseas where he ended up patrolling the rivers of Vietnam – and was one of fewer than half of his shipmates to return alive.

After his discharge, Jim was a Deputy Sheriff in San Diego, CA, and later returned to Kellogg, ID. There he worked in the Bunker Hill mines for many years, and then joined the Kellogg Sheriffs Dept. Moving back to St. Anthony, Jim worked as a Fremont County Deputy Sheriff for many years.

Jim was a great man of character, honor, duty and, most importantly, family. He is survived by his wife, Patt, of Rexburg and by his son, Jay and his wife, Calleigh, of St. Anthony, as well as by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jessica.

He will be buried at Pineview Cemetery in Ashton, ID, with a private memorial to be held at a later date.
