Obituary
Keven Mayeda
October 13th, 1956 - August 18th, 2024
Keven Del Mayeda passed away on August 18, 2024, from end stage renal disease. Keven was born on October 13, 1956, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Joe and Janiel Mayeda.
Keven made his life in Idaho Falls. He was the second oldest of five siblings. He attended OE Bell Jr. High School and Skyline High School. Keven remained an active member of the Skyline athletics community well after he graduated. For over 30 years Keven was a member of the Skyline Booster Club, and you could find him at every football and basketball game recording stats and traveling with the teams to away games. His love for Skyline athletics was always present in his life, most clearly by the blue button up he always wore and the Skyline Class of 1974 ring that he wore until the very end. In the early 1990’s, Keven and his good friend Bill Hall designed and painted the grizzly that was on the Skyline High gym floor. In 2013, he was inducted into the Skyline Hall of Fame. He wanted to thank the Skyline athletic program for 50 years of fun and entertainment.
Keven loved to travel. Some of his favorite trips were to Europe, where he visited three times. He was a member of the Idaho Falls Sister Cities program, traveling to Japan 4 times with the American delegation to Tokai, Japan. He also loved traveling to visit his nieces and nephews in California and Michigan. Keven loved each of his nieces and nephews greatly, and they were a big part of his life. From taking them to lunch or to traveling to Disney World with them, his love for them was apparent. Keven was a soft spoken and reserved man on the outside but loved his family, friends, and Skyline deeply on the inside.
In May of 1999, Keven was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. Less than one year later in April of 2000, Keven’s sister Linda donated a kidney to Keven, giving him another 24 years of life.
Keven worked for EG&G for 25 years as a graphic designer; a job he loved very much. He went on to work at Melaleuca for 17 years in product delivery and quality assurance where he retired from in 2020 due to health issues.
Keven is survived by his sister Linda Mayeda, brother Greg Mayeda, brother Corey (Rachel) Mayeda, nephew Joe Merrick, niece Marci (Jakob) Meng, nephew Matt (Kelsey) Mayeda, nieces Abby and Hannah, nephew Ethan, and great niece Sierra Merrick.
He is preceded in death by his mother Janiel Mayeda, father Joe Mayeda, brother Randy Mayeda and sister in law Lana Mayeda.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home 273 North Ridge Ave, Idaho Falls at 11:00 a.m. The family will hold a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at EIRMC, Promontory Point Rehabilitation, and Eden Home Health for their love, kindness, and amazing care of Keven.
At Keven’s request, in lieu of flowers he asked that donations be made to the Skyline High School Booster Club (1767 Blue Sky Dr. Idaho Falls, ID) or the University of Utah Kidney and Liver Center (50 Medical Drive E24 Salt Lake City, UT 84132).
