Robert Johnson Almond

Robert Johnson Almond, 83, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away January 31, 2023.

He was born on December 16, 1939, in Malad, Idaho, to Nina Johnson Almond and Oscar Merland Almond. He attended school in Preston, Idaho. On August 15, 1962 he married Karen Lee Smith, from West Covina, California.

Robert had 11 brothers and sisters. Their childhood might be called “Survival of the Fittest!” There was hard work, great companionships, plenty of teasing, competitions unlimited, and many rowdy games. Each of them was good at trying to outwit each other.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two years as a missionary in the Central States Mission, teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Robert received a BS in Health Education, and a Master’s degree in Religious Education from Brigham Young University, Provo Utah. He taught seminary and institute classes for ten years. After that, he became an insurance agent for Mutual of New York. He enjoyed writing life sketches of his ancestors, friends,and family. One of his favorite projects was writing about the prophecies of Isaiah concerning the latter days. He loved to tell stories to his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing basketball, golfing, fishing, and planting large vegetable gardens. He taught his children how to work hard before playing.

Robert is survived by Karen Lee Almond, the mother of his children, and six of their seven children: John R.Almond (Ann), Lori D.Dennert (Barry), Kymberlee D. Harvey (Jonathan) Brian M. Almond (Rachel), Leslie M. Lindeman (Aaron) and Bradley M. Almond (Lisa).Their daughter Julie Ann Neff (Brannon), preceded them in death, as well as a grandson, Tyson Barry Dennert (Jessica).

Other survivors include 25 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brothers Ray M. Almond (Judy Lynn), Sam Almond (Kamille), Dale Almond (Judy), Brent Almond (Kathy), and sister,Coleen Greaves).

Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hansen Park Ward Chapel, 8120 4th Ave. Kennewick, Washington. Attached is a zoom link for those who would like to view the service online.
