Wesley D. Jones, 86, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, suddenly and peacefully passed away January 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Wes was born July 14, 1938, in Pocatello, Idaho. He attended school in Buhl, and graduated from Twin Falls High School, excelling in sports. He was offered scholarships both for baseball in California, and football for Boise State University, accepting a two year offer with the Boise State Broncos playing both defensive and offensive positions for the 2 year school.

After graduating from Boise State University, Wes went to work at Albertson’s grocery store in Idaho Falls, where he met Mae Larsen. Wes and Mae were married January 22, 1962. They had two children, Kristie and Robert (Bob/Bobby). They lived in Boise, Nampa, and Blackfoot, before settling in Idaho Falls. He was the manager of these stores, retiring after 30 years with the Albertson’s Corporation.

He loved going camping, fishing for Halibut in Alaska and British Columbia, playing golf, and spending time at their Island Park cabin. While there, he enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and taking out the boat on Island Park Reservoir and Henry’s Lake, and special times sitting around the fire pit with family and friends. He also loved working on puzzles, no matter his age.

Wes, who was more frequently referred by family as Grumps, loved spending time with his grandkids and family. Everyone enjoyed being around him and his funny jokes.

He was a kind man, never talking ill of anybody. He was a hardworking man and made a good life for his family. He truly will be missed.

Wes was under the care of Brio Home Health and Hospice. We would like to extend our appreciation for the kindness and compassion that was given us. Thank you for your support during this hard time.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; son, Bob; siblings, Carolyn Quigley and Keith Jones; parents, Joseph Palmer Jones and Elizabeth Davis.

Wes is survived by his daughter, Kristie (Salvador) Lopez; granddaughter, Kadie Rose Bartausky (Brandon) Birch, and their children, Mason and Bailey Birch; grandson, Nickalos (Jenn) Jones, and their son, Jasper and Nick’s daughter, Jocelyn Jones (Debbie Larson).

No services will be held per his request. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a toast and do a good deed in his honor.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
