SUGAR CITY – A week after earning National High School Player of the Week honors from prepbaseballreport.com, Sugar-Salem’s Dawson McInelly hasn’t slowed down.
The Utah Tech signee has been unstoppable at the plate over his past four games, hitting .750 with five homers and 12 RBIs.
McInelly has hit homers in seven consecutive games heading into Tuesday’s game against North Fremont.
The Diggers have won 11 straight games entering Tuesday and the team averages nearly 13 runs per game, so it’s not easy to pitch around McInelly, who typically bats second in a loaded lineup.
This week’s EastIdahoSports.com Athlete of the week is among state leaders in batting (.574), RBIs (34), on-base percentage (0.667) and runs (34).
He leads the state with 12 home runs and a 1.444 slugging percentage.
McInelly’s also pitched in seven games and struck out 44 hitters in 26.2 innings without giving up an earned run. He is 5-0 with a 0.00 earned run average.
