Around the Horn: Highland sweeps doubleheader; Marsh Valley, Hillcrest, Firth, Idaho Falls all earn conference wins

EASTERN IDAHO — The Highland Rams rebounded from a loss at Madison High School to take both ends of a doubleheader with the Bobcats at Highland.
Thunder Ridge also played a conference doubleheader at home, splitting with Canyon Ridge. Marsh Valley ran its current winning streak to four games with a home conference victory over Bear Lake.
Here is what happened Wednesday on diamonds across eastern Idaho:
Madison @ Highland
Led by senior third baseman Cooper Colonel, the Rams (6-7, 2-1) claimed their first two conference wins of the season, beating the Bobcats (4-10, 1-4), 9-2 and 8-7, at Highland High School.
Colonel went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs in game one, then followed that up with a double and an RBI in game two.
Bear Lake @ Marsh Valley
The Eagles (7-3, 2-0) topped the Bears (1-9, 0-1) 15-5 in five innings for their fourth win in a row.
Marsh Valley was led by senior Chandler Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs.
Canyon Ridge @ Thunder Ridge
The Titans (5-4-1, 1-1) split a double-dip with Canyon Ridge (4-3, 1-1), winning game one 17-10, but falling in game two 7-4.
Sophomore Braedyn Pike collected a single, double and triple, and was hit by a pitch twice in five trips to the plate in Thunder Ridge’s win. He knocked in four runs and scored five.
Sugar-Salem @ Filer
The Diggers (4-8, 0-0) lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Filer.
Junior Latrell Markle recorded Sugar-Salem’s only hit and scored its only run during a 17-1 loss in game one. He picked up another hit and scored a pair of runs in a 9-4 game-two loss.
Skyline @ Hillcrest
The Knights (10-2, 1-0) won their first conference game of the season, beating the Grizzlies (6-7, 1-2) 4-3 at home.
Senior Tyler Bodily was solid on the bump for Hillcrest, holding Skyline to four hits and one unearned run with eight strikeouts in his 5 innings of work. Junior Mason Reichelt drove in two and scored two, leading the Knights offense.
North Fremont @ Firth
The Cougars (6-3, 2-0) got three hits and one run scored out of lead-off man Grant Vasquez in a 9-1 conference victory over the Huskies (4-3, 2-2).
Brycen Andersen got the win, tossing 4 innings of scoreless one-hit ball with eight strikeouts.
Shelley @ Idaho Falls
The Tigers (7-5-1, 2-1) scored in every inning of an 11-1 five-inning mercy-rule victory over the Russets (7-6, 0-4).
Sophomores Hudson Palmer and Treygan Riedle recorded a hit, run scored and two RBIs each in the win. Senior Makai Ferguson scored four times for Idaho Falls.
