EASTERN IDAHO – After three games, the new 5A High Country Conference is starting to take shape.

Defending conference champion Hillcrest, Skyline, and Blackfoot sit atop the conference unbeaten, while the other five teams look to make up some ground.

One of those teams is newcomer Century, which snapped a two-game losing streak with a nonconference win at Canyon Ridge last week.

The Diamondbacks (1-2, 0-2) have already started their run in the conference gauntlet, losing to Blackfoot and Skyline.

Things won’t get any easier against Hillcrest (3-0, 2-0).

The Knights’ new quarterback Logan Taylor has passed for eight TDs with just one interception and is averaging 171 passing yards per game.

The Hillcrest offense has been balanced, with four different players scoring rushing touchdowns and five players catching TD passes.

The 33.33 points per game leads the conference.

Century’s defense has given up a conference high 30.67 points per game.

Coming off a 9-1 season and berth in the state quarterfinals, Century coach Ryan Fleischmann said before the season that he expected his team to be tested in arguably the toughest 5A conference in the state.

A win by the Diamondbacks would likely go a long way if they are to make a playoff push.
