Preview: Madison and Skyline look to get back on the winning track after first loss

IDAHO FALLS – The Bobcats and Grizzlies each look to rebound from their first loss of the season in this nonconference matchup.

For Madison (4-1), it took a field goal in overtime at Owyhee to spoil the Bobcats’ unbeaten season.

It won’t get any easier on Friday as Skyline stumbled last week in the game with Thunder Ridge and looks to right the ship against another 6A opponent.

The Grizzlies lost 30-6 to the Titans. It was Skyline’s lowest point total since a 28-0 loss at Rigby in 2022. They’ll be tested again as Madison’s 5.20 points allowed tops 6A and 5A.

Skyline held off Madison 28-27 last year. Madison won by the exact same score in 2024.

Baring a complete collapse over the second half of the season, both the Bobcats and Grizzlies should be playoff bound in 6A and 5A, respectively.

How they’re playing down the stretch will be crucial.

After Friday, Madison’s three remaining games are against conference foes Highland, Thunder Ridge, and Rigby. The Bobcats have a bye next week before facing the conference gauntlet.

Skyline (3-1, 3-0) is already deep in its conference schedule, having won all three games so far.

The Grizzlies did not play in Week 0, so their full schedule is nine games in nine weeks.

They’ll finish with games against Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, Hillcrest, and Shelley.

Madison is currently No. 4 in the 6A MaxPreps rankings, while Skyline is No. 8 in 5A with a schedule that is heavy on the back end.
