State media poll: Highland falls, Madison rises in this week’s rankings

EASTERN IDAHO — Now that everybody has at least one game under their belts, a more genuine state media football poll can emerge.

Well, apparently the media-types weren’t far off because there is little change in this week’s poll after Week 1.

As expected, Highland fell out of the 6A top-5 after opening the season 0-2, while Madison entered the poll tied for fifth after starting the season 2-0.

Defending 5A champion Bishop Kelly earned all 11 first-place votes, but Hillcrest, Skyline, Blackfoot, and Lewiston all notched wins in Week 1.

Sugar-Salem moved up a spot to No. 3 in 4A after bouncing back from a loss to Homedale. Fruitland is No. 1 in 3A, with Homedale still at No. 2.

West Side, at 2-0, is the unanimous top pick in 3A.

No area teams were ranked in the top 5 in 8-man polls, but Butte County, which is off to a 2-0 start, received votes in 2A and Rockland received votes in 1A.
