Local lacrosse team set for state championship run this week

IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Lady Eagles will open the Treasure Valley Women’s Lacrosse League playoffs Thursday, at Mountain View High School.

The varsity Lady Eagles finished the regular season with a 6-4 record, good enough for sixth place. They will face a Mountain View team that ended the year with an 8-2 record.

The six-team playoffs also include first-place Boise (10-0) and second-place Eagle (9-1), each of whom earned a first-round bye. Teton Valley (6-4) and Bishop Kelly (6-4) will also battle in the first round, at Bishop Kelly High School.

A victory Thursday would send Idaho Falls to Eagle High School, Friday evening for a semifinal showdown.

Championship and consolation games will be played Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Field in Boise.

Lady Eagles All-Star selections

Idaho Falls had four player honored as All-Star selections, according to Erin Murdock.

Addilynn Baird — Defense
Gemma Gonzales — Midfield
Keylee Harris — Attack
Laramee Minor — Attack

Gonzales recently committed to play college lacrosse at Eastern Oregon University, according to posts on social media.

“We are excited to welcome Gemma Gonzales to the EOU Lacrosse family,” Eastern Oregon lacrosse posted on Instagram. “Gemma is a dynamic midfielder with great field awareness, specializing in the draw and able to make plays on both ends of the field. Gemma played high school lacrosse at Idaho Falls High School. Congrats Gemma.”

Boys lacrosse

The Idaho Falls Eagles boys team dropped a heartbreaker, 6-5, to the Teton Valley Wolverines, last week at OK Ward Park in Pocatello.

Idaho Falls carried a 4-3 lead into the fourth quarter, but surrendered three fourth-quarter goals. The loss eliminated the Eagles from the playoffs.
