BOISE (Idaho Statesman) — Former Boise State head coach Chris Petersen was named to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot on Monday, joining Kellen Moore as Boise State’s two representatives on the ballot.

Petersen is one of nine FBS coaches on the 2026 ballot, which also includes 79 FBS players.

Petersen coached at Boise State from 2006 to 2013 and is the winningest coach in program history with a 92-15 (88.5%) record. He won two Fiesta Bowls with the Broncos in 2007 and 2010, becoming the first coach at a non-automatically-qualifying school to win two BCS games.

He was also Moore’s head coach from 2007 to 2011 as the pair led Boise State through the most successful period in program history, including an undefeated season in 2009. Petersen also enjoyed an undefeated season in 2006. Petersen won the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award in both undefeated seasons.

Following his time at Boise State, Petersen coached the Washington Huskies from 2014 to 2019, guiding them to two Pac-12 titles and a berth in the 2016 College Football Playoff.

Moore has been on the ballot since 2022, meaning he’s been there all five years since he first became eligible. He ended his Boise State career with a 50-3 record in four years as a starter and is the winningest quarterback in major college history; he’s also third in career passing touchdowns and 10th in all-time passing yards.

Moore was inducted into the Boise State Hall of Fame in 2018. He also became head coach of the New Orleans Saints this offseason, having won Super Bowl LIX with the Philadelphia Eagles as offensive coordinator.

Boise State is represented in the College Football Hall of Fame by Randy Trautman, a Caldwell native who walked on as a defensive tackle in 1978 and is the only Bronco to earn four first-team All-American awards. He was inducted into the Boise State Hall of Fame in 1990 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

The final selections for the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be announced early next year.
