Partida powers the Aberdeen Tigers past Marsh Valley

ABERDEEN — The Aberdeen Tiger offense is predicated on depth in the backfield. The Tigers and head coach Derek Jolley would like to run the ball at least 90% of the time, which calls a running back-by-committee approach.

During their 13-6 win over the Marsh Valley Eagles (0-3, 0-1) Friday at Marsh Valley High School, six different players got carries — including seniors Erik Alvarez and Isaac Driscoll, who combined to rush for 138 yards on 25 carries.

But it was fellow senior Jeremy Partida who maximized the output from his share of the workload, pounding out 55 yards on his 12 carries, and finding the end zone twice to account for all of Aberdeen’s scoring. For his high-impact, quality-over-quantity performance, Partida is the East Idaho Sports District 5 Athlete of the Week.

The Tigers (2-2, 1-0) entered the game having lost back-to-back games, by a combined eight points.

Partida, with two first-half touchdown runs, helped Aberdeen build an early two-score advantage, to which in clung the rest of the game.

Led by its senior running back, Aberdeen will travel to Ririe Friday for a rematch of last year’s 3A state semifinal against the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-0) — which the Tigers lost 14-8.
