Chukars add Pioneer League honors as Sam Canton named MVP and Justin Trimble tabbed top rookie

The Chukars’ season is over, but the Pioneer League accolades rolled out on Monday.
Idaho Falls’ Sam Canton earned Pioneer Baseball League Most Valuable Player honors after an historic season in which he hit .409 with a .487 on-base percentage and a .782 slugging percentage. He finished with 167 hits, 37 doubles, five triples, 35 home runs, 161 RBI, 145 runs scored, 60 walks, and 15 stolen bases over 92 games.
Canton set single-season records for RBIs and doubles, and was the first PBL player this season to break the league’s single-season hits record.
Joining Canton on the postseason honors list was teammate Justin Trimble, who was named Pioneer Baseball League Rookie of the Year.
Trimble participated in the PBL Arizona Tryout Camp and eventually joined the Chukars, hitting .443 with a .521 on-base percentage and a .852 slugging percentage across 82 games.
He finished with 158 hits, 34 doubles, two triples, 36 home runs, 145 RBI, 119 runs scored, 56 walks, and 13 stolen bases.
