Teton High forfeits football game due to hazing incident

EASTERN IDAHO – Teton High has forfeited Friday’s football game against Sugar-Salem due to a hazing incident last week involving players.
According to a correspondence to school patrons sent by Teton principal Kristin Weston and obtained by East Idaho Sports, the hazing incident occurred Oct. 1 and was reported to school administrators this week.
“Although no injuries were reported, the conduct was serious enough that some players intervened to put an end to it. As a school, we take this report with the utmost seriousness,” Weston wrote in the email addressed to the Teton community.
“We want to acknowledge that the individuals involved, and the team, collectively, have accepted responsibility for the incident, and they have made the difficult decision to forfeit the team’s next game at Sugar-Salem High School. This was not an easy choice, and it reflects a willingness to take responsibility for their actions and to hold themselves accountable. The school administration supports this decision and their team effort towards accountability.”
The email, also signed by Assistant Principal Marshal Givens and Athletic Director Patrick Hogan, said that additional consequence will be applied as appropriate.
“Hazing has no place in our school community. School board policy expressly prohibits this behavior, and we are committed to enforcing that policy fully and fairly.”
This is the first week of Mountain Rivers Conference play. Sugar-Salem (6-1, 1-0) comes off a bye week, so the Diggers essentially have back-to-back off weeks before concluding conference play at South Fremont on Oct. 16.
Teton drops to 1-6, 0-1.
