POCATELLO — In their final competitive race before next week’s district meet, cross country runners from Pocatello’s three high schools went head to head to head in the Pocatello City Meet at the Upper Ross Park course.
The Century Diamondbacks won the girls’ team race, with a total of 28 points. Cross country team scores are tabulated by combining the finishes of the team’s top five racers — with one point going to the first-place runner, two to second place and so on. The team with the fewest points wins the race.
Century’s combined time for its top five runners was 1:46:25.9 — a 12:17.2 average.
Highland came in second, with 29 points and a combined time of 1:46:31.7, while Pocatello scored an 85 with a combined time of 2:00:39.3.
Individually, it was Ram senior Makenzie Tucker who broke the tape for the girls, with a 19:29.1, beating Century’s Ivana Vasquez — second place with a 19:57.8 — by nearly 30 seconds.

The Diamondbacks further expressed themselves as Pocatello’s top squad by winning the boys’ race, with 35 points and a 1:24:03.9 team time (16:48.8 average).
They were led by the top two finishers, Ethan Hansen (15:55.1) and Ammon Bitton (15:55.2).

Highland finishes second with a 37-point 1:25:07.3 team time. Pocatello posted 56 points and a 1:26:39.9 team time.
The District 5/6 meet will be held on Thursday at the Portneuf Wellness Complex in Pocatello.
