AMMON — Hillcrest celebrated its 10-3 run to a 5A State Football Championship with a banner unveiling before Thursday’s varsity basketball game against Idaho Falls.

Many of the football players were in attendance as the fans inside The Dungeon gave the team its due respect between the JV and varsity games.

The Knights (7-4, 1-1), with championship aspirations on the court as well, dispatched the Idaho Falls Tigers (2-8, 0-4), 83-51. Several of the championship-winning football players compete with the basketball team, including quarterback Tyson Sweetwood, running back Titan Larsen and wide receiver Mason Saunders.

The win ends a mini slide of back-to-back losses against in-state opponents — Borah and Blackfoot — for Hillcrest. They are currently fourth in the 5A High Country Conference standings, and are the third-ranked 5A team in the state, by the latest media polls.
