Voting now open for Idaho Sports Team of the Year

EASTERN IDAHO — Several local teams are in the running for IdahoSports.com Team of the Year.
The selection process has been broken into a 16-team bracket. Voting in the first round of that tournament-style selection process is now open — through Saturday.
Among the teams in the vying for the title of IdahoSports.com Team of the Year are Hillcrest football, Sugar-Salem track and field, Pocatello girls soccer, Malad boys wrestling, Grace Lutheran volleyball, Preston boys basketball, Bonneville baseball and Ririe girls cross-country.
There are obviously some local champions omitted from the bracket. In a brief description of the selection process, the Idaho Sports staff explains that “teams were selected on various criteria.”
The brackets also include an even balance of boys and girls teams — eight apiece — and no single school or sport has more than one representative.
Voting will go on through the month of June, according to the site, with round winners advancing weekly.
