Bohn signs multi-year extension to remain head coach of Spud Kings

IDAHO FALLS — In his two years with the Idaho Falls Spud Kings, head coach Anthony Bohn has led his team to back-to-back Dineen Cup Championship Series runs. This week, the Spud Kings announced the organization and Bohn had reached a multi-year extension, meaning he will lead the team into its NAHL era.

The Spud Kings announced the “multi-year contract extension” on Facebook.

In a new release attached to the post, team president Kevin Greene is quoted as expressing excitement about the signing.

“On behalf of myself and our entire organization, we could not be more proud and excited to announce that we have signed Head Coach Anthony Bohn to a multi-year agreement to remain with the Idaho Falls Spud Kings,” Greene says in the release. “Coach Bohn has been instrumental in the success of our on-ice product and assures us of being positioned to be amongst the best hockey teams throughout the NAHL for years to come.”

Bohn also addressed his excitement.

“The opportunity to continue leading the Spud Kings is one I don’t take lightly,” the coach says in the release. “We’ve built a strong culture here, and I’m excited to keep pushing our program forward as we enter the NAHL. Our players, staff, billets and fans have all played a role in building what we have today, and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish together.”

The Spud Kings have competed in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) of the United State Premier Hockey League (USPHL) since its inception in 2022, winning the Dineen Cup Championship in 2025. But earlier this year, the team announced its plan to move up a class into the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

At the time of the announcement, GM Chris Hall told EastIdahoSports.com that the move would bring a higher level of talent and competition to Idaho Falls.

A lawsuit filed since the announcement, however, alleges that the Spud Kings and other organizations violated contractual agreements during negotiations over their move from the NCDC to the NAHL.

As for what is happening on the ice, the Spud Kings have retained their coaching staff.

The team has also announced a series of player extensions and additions.
