District champions crowned, state tournament up next for area golfers

EASTERN IDAHO – District titles were on the line this week for area 6A and 5A golfers.
In the 6A District 6-5-4 tournament at Sand Creek Golf Course, Thunder Ridge senior Preston Webster shot 69 to win the boys title.
The Titans held off Highland to win the team race by three strokes, 293-296. It was the second straight district title for Thunder Ridge.
Danika Humphries of Canyon Ridge won the girls title with a 70.
Highland’s Saylor Wagner (74), and Charlotte Quick (75) were second and third, helping lead the Rams to the girls team title with a score of 321.
Shelley’s Dalton Vugrenes shot 69 to hold off Century’s duo of Liam McGee and Cole Reichert, who both shot 70 in the 5A District 5-6 boys championship at Sage Lakes Golf Course.
Skyline took the team title with a score of 297. Hillcrest shot 300.
Emma Mickelsen of Skyline fired a 71 to edge Ellie Higham of Shelley, who finished with a 73 in the 5A girls tournament.
Century, led by Emmajean Elquist (79), Kambell Richards (81), Evie Richards (82) and Charley McGeehan (98), won the girls team title by seven strokes over Shelley.
Next up are the state tournaments on Oct. 12-13
6A is at Avondale GC in Coeur d’Alene, and 5A is at The Links GC in Post Falls.
