EASTERN IDAHO – Welcome to the football playoffs.
Madison (6-3) limps into the postseason following conference losses to Thunder Ridge and rival Rigby, but has a chance to get back on track against a Capital team that finished fourth in the 6A Southern Idaho Conference.
The Eagles (5-4) snapped a three-game losing skid with two wins to end the regular season, racking up 112 points in the victories over Middleton and Timberline.
Madison’s defense has been its strength during its playoff run, so the Bobcats will likely need to slow down the suddenly-hot Capital offense to earn the home win.
Despite giving up a season-high 35 points in last week’s loss at Rigby, Madison still tops all of 6A with a 9.78 points allowed per game average.
Quincey Clay has passed for 27 touchdowns with just four interceptions for Capital, while also rushing for 15 scores. Elliot Schrack has 13 receiving TDs.
Madison is seeded seventh in the 6A bracket and would face No. 2 Rigby in the second round if the Bobcats defeat Capital.
The Bobcats beat Boise 17-14 in last year’s state opener, before losing to North No. 1 Coeur d’Alene in the second round.
