Vawdrey helps Highland punch state ticket with scoring outburst

POCATELLO — Looking to book their trip to the state championships with a district tournament title, the Highland Rams leaned on their leading scorer, Alexis Vawdrey.
Vawdrey did everything Highland could have asked for and more, scoring seven goals in two games, including five in the district championship. The junior striker added two assists for an incredible 16 points in the two games, earning the title of East Idaho Sports District 5 Athlete of the Week.

Vawdrey scored twice in a 7-0 victory over Thunder Ridge in the first round of the 6A District 5-6 tournament. She followed that up with an all-time performance, putting five goals past the Rigby defense to take over the state’s goals lead.
She has since been passed up by Skyline’s Isley Dixon (37) and Macy Marlow (35), but Vawdrey’s 33 goals have come in 18 games played (1.833 goals per game), to 20 from the high-scoring Grizzlies duo (1.850 and 1.750, respectively). Hillcrest’s Quincy Daw, with 33 (2.062 per game), rounds out the state’s goal-scoring leaderboard.
Vawdrey scored three goals during Highland’s 2025 state tournament run and will look to lead from her striker position again this season as the Rams look to improve upon their consolation championship last season.
