Avalanche Gymnastics racks up individual awards at Rumble in the Jungle

POCATELLO — Things were rumbling and hardware was clanging as the Avalanche Gymnastics team brought home plenty of awards from the Rumble in the Jungle meet in Pocatello.

“These girls not only work hard, putting in the time, but they travel a lot,” said Head Coach Cayla Beutler. “It’s nice they could show off their skills in front of a home crowd.”

For a team that has already traveled to meets in Utah and Colorado this season, Pocatello is almost as close to home as they get with their next meet set for Boise next weekend. Regardless of the locale, Avalanche was a force to be reckoned with.

Level 2 gymnasts brought home a slew of awards, including Tenley Reeves, who placed first on bars (9.25) and Athena Brugetti who took first on vault (9.35).

Stella Redd was stellar in her first place all-around finish in the junior division, scoring a 37.300 and taking first on bars (9.650) and second on vault (9.500).

First year competitor Makley Bird also finished first on floor with a 9.400.

The Level 3 team was led in part by Opal Shaner who placed third in the all-around, followed close behind by fourth place Eisley Craynor. Addie Jaynes took fifth with Trinnity Muntean in seventh and propelled by a second place medal on floor (9.050).

Level 4 gymnasts were anchored by Heidi Schempp who finished first in the all-around with an incredible 38.000 score that included first place finishes on beam (9.675) and bars (9.650).

In the senior division Chiara Turner and Grace Redd went one-and-two with Turner taking home top event honors on bars and beam, and Redd finishing first on vault and floor. Cecilia Winslow also finished second in her division after posting an impressive 9.450 on bars to earn her a second place medal in addition to a second place on vault.

Hazel Hewit, the lone Level 5 for Avalanche at this meet, took third. Addie Traue was fourth in the Level 6 competition with third place medals for both vault (9.150) and floor (9.450). She was followed by Avalanche teammate Alyssa Hayes in fifth who posted an impressive 9.175 on beam to earn second place in the event. Level 7 standout Lillie Wade took home top honors in the all-around with a solid 37.000 as well as second place finishes in vault (9.150), bars (9.400), and floor (9.450).

The stellar sister duo of Sara and Megan Jacobson went first and second in the Platinum level competition. Idaho Falls High Senior, Sara, in a world of tiny gymnasts stands head and shoulders above her competitors, both literally and figuratively, taking first in the all-around.

Level 9 gymnast Carlee Russell took first along with top finishes on vault, beam and floor. Amelia Frerichs was right behind in second place. Marie Myrup took first on bars and beam, with all three girls sweeping the first place individual event awards.
