Teton’s Silva shines in goal, leading Timberwolves to state title

DRIGGS — Teton High School senior Bruno Silva was huge during the Timberwolves’ run to a boys’ 4A state soccer championship.

In fact, Silva starred all season, helping Teton post 13 clean sheets and hold opponents to just 12 goals all season, in 19 games (0.63 per game). But Silva was at his best when it mattered most — in the postseason.

In two district tournament games, Silva and the Timberwolves held Firth scoreless in a 6-0 win. Then they shut out the Diggers 1-0 to earn a district championship. Silva kept the shutout streak going in the first round of the state tournament, helping Teton beat American Falls 4-0.

When Teton went into overtime against Sun Valley, Silva held strong again, allowing one goal in a 2-1 win.

And in an all-District 6 title match, Silva once again shut Sugar-Salem down.

Defending a 3-0 first-half lead, Teton faced an aggressive Digger attack, and Silva turned away shot after shot with several spectacular saves. It wasn’t until several Timberwolves, including Silva, were removed in the closing minutes of the championship game that Sugar-Salem finally found the net in an eventual 4-1 Teton win.

For his impressive performance at the state tournament, Silva is the East Idaho Sports District 6 Athlete of the Week.
