It’s another state title for Rigby as the Trojans’ legacy continues to grow

RIGBY – The trouble with success is that sometimes teams or players can get complacent.

“That’s my biggest fear every year,” Rigby football coach Armando Gonzalez said. “The concern is we let our guard down because of our performance in previous years.”

After winning a second-straight 6A state title this season and a fifth championship in the past seven years, it’s fair to say the Rigby program has established itself as a dynasty.

And if there was any complacency or lack of motivation or urgency, it was quickly quashed as the team finished 11-1 and celebrated another title.

“We saw some early signs of complacency and we stomped that out quick,” Gonzalez said. “(Previous seasons) have no bearing on what teams do … Very early on we drove that home.”

Like most successful programs, Rigby has thrived by building a foundation where younger players come up through the ranks and eventually step in as the upper classmen graduate.

There have no up or down seasons during the team’s current run, just consistency.

The Trojans’ lone loss this season came at 5A state champion Bishop Kelly.

After a bye week, Rigby was back in championship mode, rolling over conference foes Highland and Madison, and then beating reigning 5A state champion Hillcrest.

They handled Mountain View 42-28 to open the playoffs, and then took down foe Rocky Mountain 40-21 in the semis.

There was definitely no complacency in the postseason as the Trojans capped the year with a 41-6 win over an upstart Timberline team in the championship game.

Gonzalez said it’s up to each team to write its own script, and the ending couldn’t have been better for the 2025 Trojans.
