Malad’s Green shines on offense and defense, leading Dragons to victory

MALD CITY — Senior Easton Green has led the Malad offense all season, accounting for nine of the Dragons’ 14 touchdowns through five games. He has also emerged as one of the state’s top ballhawking defensive backs, and currently leads the state with seven interceptions.

Green entered play last Friday, against the Soda Springs Cardinals (2-3, 0-1), with two interceptions on the season. But after picking off five Cardinal passes during a 33-6 victory at Malad High School, he pushed his season total to seven picks.

Burley’s Marcus Armstrong is second in the state — among teams that report their stats to MaxPreps — with five interceptions.

But Green’s primary role on the Dragons is as the team’s dual-threat quarterback.

After passing for 138 yards and one touchdown against Soda Springs, Green has now thrown for six scores on the season — without an interception. He also rushed for 50 yards and two scores against the Cardinals, giving him three touchdown runs for the season.

He leads the team with 208 rushing yards on the year.

Green and the Dragons played in the state tournament last year, falling to West Jefferson in the opening round.

Malad is currently 11th in the state among 3A squads, according to MaxPreps, which is used for state seeding.

Winners of three straight, Green and the Dragons have time to improve their standing over the next four weeks. They will be at home again Friday, hosting the Marsh Valley Eagles (0-5, 0-1) for a conference showdown.
