Sho-Ban Seeks to Federalize Tribal Police

(FORT HALL) – Idaho’s Indian Reservations are petitioning the federal government to expand police power over non-tribal members. KIDK reports that the Shoshone-Bannock tribal police often encounter situations where they simply don’t have the jurisdiction to enforce the law. By federalizing police, authorities would be able to give citations to non-Indians through the federal court system. Federal powers could be granted to tribal police within six months.
