Nationals Acquire All-Star Pitcher Gonzalez from Athletics

Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Washington Nationals are making sure that they are no longer a team to be overlooked in the competitive NL East. Pending a physical, the team has acquired left-handed starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for pitcher Brad Peacock, Tommy Milone, A.J. Cole, and catcher Derek Norris.
Gonzalez was rumored to be involved in numerous deals, but the Nationals made the best offer for the 26-year old southpaw. In his second full season as a starting pitcher, Gonzalez went 16-12 with a 3.12 ERA while striking out 197 batters.
Gonzalez will join a promising young Nationals starting rotation that also includes Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmerman, while Oakland adds depth to their farm system with young up-and coming prospects.
