Vizquel will be invited to major league spring training camp, according to league sources, and he’s expected to compete for a utility infield job with the team. If he does make the cut, Vizquel, who will turn 45 on April 24, will suit up for his 24th season in the major leagues. Vizquel is an 11-time gold glove winner, and has accumulated 2,841 hits over that time.

This past season with the Chicago White Sox, Vizquel served a mentor-type role will fellow shortstop Alexei Ramirez while also serving as the team’s utility infielder. He appeared in 58 games and filled in at first base, second base, third base, shortstop, designated hitter, and also served as a pinch hitter.
