Giants Offer Lincecum Record Arbitration Deal
Published at(SAN FRANCISCO) — The San Francisco Giants have offered starting pitcher Tim Lincecum $17 million in salary arbitration, the highest offer ever made to a Major League Baseball player, but Lincecum is seeking $21.5 million from the club.
Lincecum is a two-time National League Cy Young Award winner who went 13-14 with a 2.64 ERA last season. In 2005, Houston Astros pitcher Roger Clemens requested a record $22 million in salary arbitration. The previous record for an offer came in 2001, when the New York Yankees offered shortstop Derek Jeter $14.25 million.
