Instead of Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference, two captains do a schoolyard-type draft where each player goes back and forth to chose their team.

This year, Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara opposed Ottawa Senators winger Daniel Alfredson, better known as Team Chara vs. Team Alfredson. Chara looked like a genius for selecting Marian Gaborik of the New York Rangers has he scored three goals while also adding an assist as Team Chara went on to beat Team Alfredson 12-9. On the way to winning the games’ MVP award, he even scored on his Ranger teammate, goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

“It’s always tough to score on him,” Gaborik said of Lundqvist. “It’s not easy. I was fortunate to be lucky against him, but I think he’s one of the best if not the best goalie in the league.”

Meanwhile, Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas won his fourth All-Star game, extending his own record.
