(NEW YORK) — New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton will file an appeal of his season-long suspension on Friday. He will also ask NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for guidance on the suspension’s parameters, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
“Nobody expects that he is going to win this appeal but if nothing else he’s hoping to delay his suspension by a few days to give his organization more time to do what it needs to get done,” Schefter told ESPN.
Roger Goodell has said Payton has until Monday to appeal and, if he does, he could stay on as coach, pending an expedited hearing.
The appeal is expected to be an expedited appeal from Commissioner Goodell who is expected to make a decision within days, according to Schefter.
As for Bill Parcells becoming the next head coach, Schefter also said don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
