The Bulls defense only allowed 13 points in the first half, in a 65-54 shutdown win over California inside Dayton Arena.

Victor Rudd led the way for South Florida with 15 points.

“I didn’t imagine that happening, we dug ourselves a huge hole in the first half,” said California head coach Stan Heath. “Probably as bad as I’ve seen us play.”

“We’re all thrilled,” said South Florida head coach Mike Montgomery. “We didn’t just want to come here for one game.  We did want to prove a little bit that we deserve and we belong.  The kids took that to heart.”

Their next opponent will be the No. 5 seed Temple in Nashville on Friday.
