Tony Stewart Wins At Las Vegas

Jerry Markland/Getty Images for NASCAR(LAS VEGAS) -- The defending Sprint Cup champion got his first win of the season on a track that he has never won before on Sunday.

Tony Stewart held off Jimmie Johnson on Sunday to take the checkered flag at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"We had to wait 365 days for a shot at it again," Stewart said. "I might not have been so mad on the airplane had I known I was going to win a year later."

Sunday's win marked his sixth Sprint Cup Win in the last 13 races, his first with new crew chief Steve Addington.

"I really believe Tony is really coming into his own with Stewart-Haas Racing," co-owner Gene Haas said. "He's as calm as I've ever seen him, composed, very confident in what he does. I have no doubt this could be another pivotal year for Tony."
